To:  the Legislative Assembly of Ontario: 

Whereas the Province of Ontario has enacted the Greenbelt legislation, and; 

Whereas the Province of Ontario has protected and preserved the lands in north Oakville known as the Oakville Land Assembly (or the ORC lands) on the west side of the Sixteen-Mile Creek, and; 

Whereas the Province of Ontario has shown its interest and concern for protecting natural heritage systems, including linkages, and; 

Whereas the Province of Ontario, the Region of Halton and the Town of Oakville agreed to an Interagency Review (IAR) process to deal with the natural heritage aspect of the planning process for north Oakville, and;  

Whereas the boundaries, the general systems based approach, the policies for core areas/core preserve areas, linkage preserve areas, hydrological features, natural features, and permitted uses in natural heritage/open space systems are all reflected in the preliminary draft Natural Heritage/Open Space System, and; 

Whereas the IAR agree that Ontario's policy led planning system, through the Planning Act and the Provincial Policy Statement, supported by local and regional policies, allows the Town to protect the natural heritage/open space system through Official Plan designation and zoning, 

We, the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: 

We, the residents of Oakville, Ontario, wholeheartedly support the Province's efforts to ensure the creation of a Natural Heritage System in north Oakville in  order to ensure the protection and preservation of a continuous wildlife corridor, including both the east and west side of the Sixteen-Mile Creek.
